Hechler’s is the place to see and
answer questions about inserts. A fireplace insert is
a wood or gas stove with out legs that is inserted into
your existing fireplace and finished off with a trim panel.
To find out what insert will fit your fireplace, you need
several key measurements. It is very important to measure
your opening where you put your wood. We need the opening
height, width and depth. If the firebox tapers, measure
the width in the front and width in the rear. Estimate
your flue height and size. Keep in mind that chimneys
can be round, square or rectangular. You also need to
identify if you have a factory built pre-fab fireplace
with a metal chimney or a full masonry, brick and mortar
fireplace with a clay tile chimney. Before you visit our
showroom, we suggest you bring with you several pictures
of your fireplace. You don’t even have to print
them just bring your digital camera or even a camera phone
photo. Most fireplace inserts have a blower so locate
your closest electrical source.
Wood burning fireplace inserts require a
stainless steel liner to be connected from top of the
insert to the top of the chimney. That is why estimating
your chimney height is important.
Direct Vent or Vent Free Gas inserts will
require the same measurements, in addition we need to
know what kind of gas you have, LP or Natural Gas.
Gas logs sets are not inserts but also require
the same measuring.
Another option for customers with inefficient
small builder’s grade fireplaces is tear them out
and start over. Lennox has come out with a new Hi-efficiency
zero clearance fireplace named the Ladera. It is the perfect
size to replace the small 36” builder boxes with
something that will really heats.

Heat Champion Fireplace Insert |
 |
 |
The Stoll Heat Champion is a "Hybrid"
fireplace insert that combines the beauty of a
custom glass door and the heat of a fireplace
inset. It is available in a variety of finishes
sizes to fit a masonry fireplace.
Price range $1998.00 to $2800.00
An open fireplace and chimney is one of the largest energy leaks in a home; like leaving a door or window open to the outside. There are ways to close up an open fireplace and save energy.
One way is to install a glass door on the fireplace opening. A glass door allows you to enjoy the beauty and warmth of an open fire, while still closing it up when not in use. This is a very beautiful option, but almost all heat is lost up the chimney.
A second option is to install an insert into the fireplace. This is very efficient and captures a lot of the heat that is lost with a fireplace door. However, the trade off is that an insert is not nearly as beautiful as a glass door.
The unique design of the Heat Champion gives you the benefits of both a glass door and a fireplace insert. This is why we call it a "hybrid". Like a glass door, you get the beauty of being able to see the fire. And like an insert, you save energy be using the heat generated by the fire. You can also add the Stainless Steel Grill and/or the Swinging Kettle Holder for a unique cooking dimension.

Direct Vent Gas
Inserts |
| Direct vent gas inserts
are a great way to increase the efficiency of your
wood burning fireplace if you don’t want to
burn wood in it anymore. These attractive inserts
require the same careful measuring as the wood inserts.
In addition know the location your gas line as well
as its accessibility. Direct vent inserts house a
gas log that has a great looking burn and an efficient
firebox that captures the heat so the blower can transfer
the heat into the home. They are sealed systems that
take in outside air and return the exhaust back up
the chimney. We have several direct vent inserts actually
hooked up and burning in our showroom. Here are some
pictures of some of our inserts. |

Vent Free Gas Inserts |
| Vent free gas insert
are another option. These units usually only fit larger
prefab factory built fireplaces or full masonry fireplaces.
Vent free gas inserts provide lots of heat, they are
99.9% efficient and are less expensive to install.
Since they are vent free, there is no flue liner;
the existing fireplace damper is merely closed. The
Buck Stove Model 384 we show in our store is a great
vent free option. It comes with the logs, brick liner
and thermostatically controlled blower as standard
equipment. It can also be operated with an optional
remote control |
