Since 1998, our heaters have been keeping pools warm across America and Europe. With the highest quality & most effective wood pool heater design on the market, we bring you an alternative to spending your hard earned money to heat the pool. If you have wood, then you can enjoy a heated pool at no cost and have a much longer swimming season.

  • Two sizes to choose from..
  • Runs off your existing pool pump water flow.
  • Easy self installation kit available.
  • Instantly heats water flow by 2-8 degrees.
  • Very low maintenance.
  • 2 year limited warranty on heater.
  • 5 year warranty on Stainless Steel manifolds.

How It Works

The heater is plumbed into your pool equipment after the pump & filter. Your pool pump pushes water through the heater exchanger, which is in the top of the heater, while a fire is burning in the firebox below. The water is instantly heated by 2 to 8 degrees (varies by model) & then returned to your pool. For best results, add wood every 1-2 hours.

Heater Information and Sizing

It is very important to get the right size heater for your pool. Buying a heater too small will not heat your pool quickly or efficiently. To properly determine the correct size heater for your swimming pool or hot tub, you need to know the following:

The Surface Area of your Pool
This can be done simply by measuring the exterior of your pool (Length X Width = square feet surface area of your water)
A round pool surface area = (Radius x Radius X 3.143)
But also keep in mind if your pool is a little shallower than a normal pool you may not need a large heater, the opposite goes for a deeper pool.

Volume of your Pool in U.S. Gallons = (Surface area X average depth X 7.5)
Knowing the volume(gallons) of your pool will allow for the best estimate of what size heater you need.

Heater Setup & Operating Instructions

Plumbing and Winterizing:

The unit has two positions labeled INLET & OUTLET. These are 1-1/2" schedule 40 PVC Pipe "Glue type Fittings". Cut into the pool’s return line after it leaves the filter and run pipe to Inlet position. Then, run pipe from Outlet position back to remaining segment of pool’s return line.
We recommend that you install on 1-1/2" PVC Tee. If you use a tee in this position, it will make it easier to winterize the unit. Install a drain plug in the bottom of each tee & simply remove these plugs to winterize. (see winterize instructions below) You may experience back-pressure on your pressure gauge at the filter after installing the unit. If so, installation of a bypass line and valve will eliminate the problem. If this is necessary, open the valve just enough to relieve the back-pressure.

Winterizing:

Remove drain plugs on bottom of the Tees at the Inlet and Outlet positions, blow compressed air into the outlet position tee until all water quits coming out of inlet position tee.

Handling/Assembly/Installation:

Always lift the unit from the bottom. Never try to lift by the top plate. While on the pallet, use a pallet jack or lift truck to move. After removing from pallet, a two- wheeler may be used on the side of the unit opposite the manifold cover box, left side facing the front of the unit.

Installation:

Place the unit three feet from existing buildings or obstructions. Do Not put unit in any enclosure (leave outside).

Assembly:

Inside the unit, you will find a 24" piece of 6" stove pipe with crimping on both ends. One end of the pipe has a small ring at the end of the crimping. Install this end in the stove, put the cap on the other end and position the temperature indicator approximately halfway up the pipe.

Operating Instructions:

1. Make sure your pump is running and is flowing through the unit, if for any reason the water flow is interrupted (power outage, etc.) extinguish the fire immediately.

2. Place small kindling in the fire-box, set the material directly on the fire brick bottom (Don't use a log rack). To ignite, use paper or a fireplace starter log, never use liquid flammable materials, once the fire is started, add larger logs and keep the fire box full. When operating at full capacity, it will be necessary to add wood every two hours depending on the type of wood used. At night, fill the firebox and close the draft doors, it will usually only maintain the pool temperature at night. In the morning, after 8 to IO hours, you should have a good bed of coals to start the daytime burning procedure again.

3. Draft Control: When first getting the fire started, open draft control doors completely open. You can even leave the door ajar to get additional draft, if needed. Leave draft doors open until the temperature indicator on the chimney reads in the efficient range, at that point adjust draft control and add wood to keep the temperature in the efficient range. When operating in the efficient range, you should get a 3 to 6 degree temperature difference between water going into the heater versus water returning to the pool.

4. When heating your pool, you should use a solar or thermal blanket to reduce the loss of heat generated, this is especially important at night.

Pete Port and Digital Thermometer
Accurately measure the incoming and outgoing water temperatures of the heater to see the increase in temperature that you are producing. Excellent way to fine tune your fire burning skills and efficiency by making sure you are getting the best results possible!

Two thermometers and a temperature rise of 7.0 degrees on a large heater.
A second thermometer can be purchased for $22.

where it will measure your water temperature.

We have two thermometer brands that we use. Taylor (yellow) and Polder (gray). Why two brands? Because our supplier sometimes runs out of one type.

Water Bypass Valve Kit
1. Regulate water flow through the heater, reducing back pressure on the pump. Most common with 1.5 Horse power water pumps or larger.
2. During long periods of not burning the pool heater, it's a good idea to shut off the water through it & drain the water out of the drain plugs (included with all stoves).
3. If the heater was to leak for some reason, you could shut off the water to the pool heater and keep your pool pump/filter running, while you fix the leak.
4. If you need to SHOCK chlorinate the pool, or anytime your water PH level is not great, the heat exchangers life will be extended if you shut off the water for 1 day.

A perfect bypass set-up with three ball valves.
A great example of a three-valve bypass set-up, with flexible pool hoses attached. Pool hose adapter kit sold separately.

Pool House Adapter Kit

This kit is for customers who want to hook up the wood pool heater up to an above ground pool using hoses, not PVC pipe. We recommend installing a water bypass valve kit and then gluing on these adapters, as seen in the picture directly above.

The kit includes what you see in both pictures, Two 1.5 inch PVC couplers (Female threads to slip), two male threaded nylon fittings and 2 radiator hose clamps.

The pool hose will tightly slide over the nylon barbed fitting & be clamped on with the radiator hose clamps, it's very simple.
